Aboriginal Youth Sports Challenge
From 2006-2007, the Aboriginal Youth Sports Challenge engaged young Aboriginal athletes in a day of inspiration, competition and fun.
The Aboriginal Youth Sports Challenge aimed to bring Aboriginal youth together for a day of inspiration, competition and fun. From 2006-2007, more than 250 youth from communities across BC particiapated in the Challenge, which consisted of two parts: Aboriginal Talent ID and SportFit™. High-performance athletes participated in the Aboriginal Talent ID to learn about the commitment needed to excel in sports, while all the youth participated in SportFit™, which matched the youths' personal preferences and physical attributes with suitable summer and winter sports.
The Aboriginal Youth Sports Challenge also included:
- The chance to meet some of Canada’s Aboriginal athletes
- The opportunity to challenge yourself and put your athletic abilities to the test
- Introduction to several Olympic winter sports
- A day of activity, competition and fun
The Talent ID challenge stations included:
- Vertical jump
- 30m sprint
- Push-ups
- Beep test (20m shuttle)
- Box jump
The SportFit™ challenge stations included:
- Trunk flexion
- Basketball throw
- Partial curl-ups
- Vertical jump
- 800m run
- T-drill
- Stork stand
- 30m sprint
